In our recent blog “5G: Look for where motivation and creativity is high” , we noted that 5G license costs is a key variable in the rate of 5G deployment. Also that past auctions had crippled investment capacity.
LightReading is reporting that many countries in Europe have kept license fees down to sane levels, with the one exception being Italy. See: “Europe Must Pray for Sobriety in German 5G Auction”
On the just started German auction, LightReading is generally optimistic that there will not be a repeat of the Italy auction in Germany, but nonetheless, in its own inimitable style, concedes these are “buttock clenching moments”. Germany is a big part of the European economy, let’s hope there is a good and balanced result.
